With a legal career spanning over 30 years, Gerald S. Gerald’s journey into law began at the University of Colorado, where he earned dual Bachelor’s degrees in Anthropology and Biology. Driven by a commitment to understanding both human and systemic dynamics, he graduated in the top 20% of his class. He then pursued his legal education at the University of La Verne College of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate and graduated third in his class, receiving the Student of Distinction Award.
Throughout his career, Gerald has played an instrumental role as both a litigator and legal advisor. Since founding Unis & Associates in 1992, he has advised numerous Boards of Directors on critical business issues, including compensation negotiation and cash flow analysis, which have led to significant reductions in overhead and operational costs for his clients. In addition to his work at Unis & Associates, Gerald served as House Counsel for CNA Insurance Co., one of the world’s largest business insurers. He also practiced with Callahan, McCune & Willis and Cassidy, Warner, Brown, Combs and Thurber, where he argued and won several landmark cases that have since shaped California legal standards. Notably, Gerald’s victory in Gregg v. El Pollo Loco clarified food service laws in the state, while his success in Harold v. Rolling J Ranch established the doctrine of Reasonable Implied Assumption of the Risk. These achievements reflect Gerald’s profound impact on California law, as well as his capacity to influence the legal framework in ways that benefit businesses and industries statewide.
Beyond his legal practice, Gerald is active and contributes to his community through a board positions at his church and a local Little League and has coached youth and high school football organizations and baseball. He also maintains memberships in various associations, including The Knights of Pythius and St. Jude Hospital. His personal interests are as diverse as his professional experience; he is an antique motorcycle enthusiast, hunter, and fisherman. In 1984 Gerald was hired by the Olympic committee to instruct intercity youth in the Art of Windsurfing and has written “How to”manuals for the local ski industry shops like Chic’s sporting goods.
